DonateIssues
If elected to the county legislature, Mary Frances will focus on the following issues:
-
Speak out for Democracy, Due Process and Equality for allMany county residents are upset by what is happening at the national level. Unlike the current legislators in District 2, Mary Frances pledges to be a strong voice for all county residents and will stand up for the traditional American values of fairness and due process.
-
Pursue efficiencies and savings in county governmentNew York State has substantial funding for local governments that participate in programs to collaborate with other Towns and Counties to deliver services. Rensselaer currently does not take advantage of these shared services programs and deprives its residents of the resulting tax savings. If elected, Mary Frances will work to generate savings through active participation in state shared services initiatives.
-
Promote energy efficiency and resilience to extreme weather events at little or no cost to taxpayersRensselaer County has recently experienced extreme weather events such as flooding rains and severe winter storms. If elected, Mary Frances will sponsor a resolution to enroll Rensselaer County in New York State's Climate Smart program while making the county eligible for state grants to protect against severe weather events. Currently, smaller counties such as Warren County are enrolled in this program while Rensselaer County has not moved forward with adapting the county to changing weather conditions.
-
Put a halt to questionable economic development schemesIf elected, Mary Frances promises to investigate the Rensselaer County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) which frequently rewards supporters and donors to the GOP majority with tax breaks and other benefits which harm honest taxpayers. Mary Frances pledges to use IDA funds only to reward companies who commit to adding jobs that pay a living wage. Funds should not go to companies that merely relocate within the county.
-
Support our first respondersA series of presentations have shown that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) struggle in many parts of the county. Work and family life changes as well as expanded training and certification requirements have reduced the number of volunteers and many communities suffer from increased response times. Mary Frances will work on ways for the county to assist its first responders.
